The paper at hand deals with the flexibility calculation of battery-trolleybuses (BTs) operating in a 660 V low-voltage direct current (LVDC) traction network. The replacement of conventional trolleybuses and diesel-buses combined with the integration of stationary storage systems, photovoltaic systems and electric vehicle charging stations within the LVDC traction network is followed by developing a monitoring and control system. The grid state is subject to high volatility due to the increase and fluctuation in power consumption of BTs. Thus, a forecast-based monitoring and control system is developed in order to predictively detect and solve critical situations such as current overloads and voltage limit violations. To achieve these goals, the control system must be dynamically provided with precise flexibility calculations for the actuators and BTs, respectively, that come into consideration. Since BTs urgently rely on the necessary state-of-charge (SoC) to overcome the following catenary-free sections, particularly high demands are placed on the system.
