Increasingly higher demands on dynamics, accuracy and smoothness of motion have also made new approaches to solutions necessary in linear drive technology. A new type of incremental encoder concept for linear and tubular motors, based on magnetoresistive sensor technology, has been developed to fulfil the abovementioned requirements and also save time and money in final assembly. Using the so-called "MultiFixPitch" concept, the incremental encoder is used for measurement directly at the stator magnet, that is, the existing stator magnets in the secondary part of the motor are used as a measurement scale. This eliminates the need for an expensive additional scale and the integration into the drive system is simplified. This is both space- and cost-saving for the designer. The system offers the designer a high installation tolerance, which in turn saves time during final assembly. The encoder is installed on the primary part of the linear motor above the stator magnets, which in practice proves to be an easily accessible installation location.
