To obtain coherence products between pairs of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images, these need to undergo coregistration involving subpixel interpolation of one onto the other. SAR image phase deramping, or basebanding, should first be performed to avoid interpolation errors in the interpolation. Basebanding leads to more accurate image interpolation, however conventional basebanding is not optimal for SAR-near-field geometries where wavefronts are substantially curved over the imaging space. This is a scenario common in Ground-based SAR and in close-in UAV radar collection. This paper presents a spatially variant basebanding approach suitable for the SAR-near-field scenario.
