The radar market is diverse, with potential customers having a wide range of requirements. Customers clearly seek a central electronics subsystem which meets their functional requirements, but they also seek a low cost, low risk solution which is compact, lightweight and which has low power consumption. Over the period 2010 to 2014, with support from the UK Technology Strategy Board and the UK Space Agency, Airbus Defence and Space Ltd in Portsmouth, UK, completed the development and qualification of a generic, flexible radar central electronics product aimed at the space radar market. It is known as ‘NIA’. The paper presents the design, features and capabilities of the NIA product, with examples of its configuration on the forthcoming NovaSAR-S mission.
