This paper discusses design considerations for replacing conventional linear voltage regulators (LVRs) for onchip loads with output capacitor free LVRs in CMOS. The key parameters for comparing the performance are chosen to be the output impedance and the power supply rejection ratio (PSRR). Based on the output impedance frequency response and PSRR frequency response the influence of external and internal components and parasitics will be shown. This allows an intuitive insight into the performance limitations of output capacitor free LVRs and gives a starting point for new designs. Keywords - LVR; LDO; capacitor less; output capacitor free
