High resolution and wide swath (HRWS) are the most important two requirements for modern synthetic aperture radar, but hard to satisfy at the same time. Multiple phase centers multiple azimuth beam technology (MPCMAB) had effectively released such conflict, and make HRWS SAR imaging possible. Nowadays, the state of art digital beam forming was widely and deeply researched, which greatly improved the imaging quality of HRWS SAR and released the conflicts classical SAR system confronted with. The principle of MPC-MAB SAR was reviewed, and a imaging approach with adaptive down/up chirp method was proposed, simulations were executed with both point and distributed target and all results proved that the imaging approach not only capable but also effective, and it is can be easily operated and combined with classical SAR imaging algorithms.
