DSL technology has improved to the point that operators can confidently use their copper networks to deliver top-quality triple-play services. DSL solutions are evolving to take advantage of higher-speed versions of DSL, from ADSL2+ to VDSL2, to support over 25 Mbit/s to each subscriber, which is sufficient for advanced video services to multiple TV sets per home. In addition, designs of DSL access multiplexers (DSLAMs) have improved, with multicast replication on the DSLAM and also high capacity switching matrix (more than 20 Gbps). Another aspect in telecom providers market is the creation of content and services. Those that do not take an active role will be reduced to operators of "dumb pipe" broadband networks, where facilities-free service providers reap the rewards of triple play by accessing the customer directly over their broadband lines. To ensure that investing in broadband access pays off, Alcatel include service enabling features in broadband access platforms (HDTV, HSI wholesaling, VoD , PVRs, VPNs for wholesaling residential 3 play, Point to point voice services SIP, H248, VPNs for SMEs, Gaming, ...).
