Power Electronics has been used in Hydro-Quebec power system for almost 30 years in transmission, in interconnection to neighbouring network, for system stability and shunt compensation purposes. Between 1976 to 1988, fourteen SVCs in eight different substations and other HVDC installations have been commissioned. This paper presents Hydro-Quebec's experience with these FACTS and HVDC equipment.
