This part of IEC 63285 covers the Energy Storage Power Converter (ESPC) for use in Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS) as defined by IEC 62933 series. This document covers the Method of specifying the performance and test requirements. This document establishes the performance and test requirements applied to all types and architectures of a Energy Storage Power Converter (ESPC) for use in Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS). The ESPC is connected through an interface to the utility grid or isolated from the utility grid. The ESPC is connected to a single DC port and integrates one or more AC ports. It is intended to convert AC to suitable DC for charging the accumulation subsystem and to convert DC of the accumulation subsystem into AC at the AC port and can improve the power quality of the electrical power network. ESPC equipment (constructed either as one unitary complete sub-system or as matched assemblies) may provide functions for charging, discharging, control, protection, power conversion and communication. The sub-system may contain other ancillary equipment related to the functioning of the Electrical Energy Storage System.
