This IEC standard specifies the minimum requirements for aspects related to operation, construction, documentation, methods of testing and required test results for man overboard (MOB) devices intended for alerting and/or locating purposes. This standard consists of multiple parts where the first part covers general requirements and aspects. Further parts cover specific technologies that are used within MOB equipment. MOB equipment shall comply with the first part and one or more parts covering specific technologies that are incorporated in the equipment. Equipment including DSC functionality shall also include AIS functionality. Subject to future frequency allocation [WRC19 Agenda Item 1.9.1], AIS 16 technology MOB devices may use either AIS1/2 channels or channel [2006].
