This standard contains the German version of the European Standard EN IEC 61643-331:2020 and is identical with the International Standard IEC 61643-331:2020. It describes performance requirements and test methods for metal oxide varistors (MOV) which are used for the design and the construction of surge protective devices connected to low-voltage supply systems, telecommunications and signalling networks. It contains specifications concerning the service conditions and concerning the mechanical and electrical characteristics of the MOV and methods for the verification of these characteristics. In annex A information for the test of MOV in accordance with the classes I, II and III of IEC 61643-11 is given. Further information is contained in annexes B, C and D. In relation to the previous edition some specifications were clarified.
