This standard is applicable to equipment used for sampling and continuous measurement of radioactive noble gases in the workplace, in gaseous effluents discharged into the environment as well as in the environment itself. Radon also is a radioactive noble gas but its measurement is not included in this standard (therefore see standards series DIN IEC 61577). For effluent monitors, DIN EN 60761-3 (VDE 0493-1-3):2005-05 and DIN EN 60761-1 (VDE 0493-1-1):2005-05 apply. Monitoring by definition is the process of continuous and real-time measurement. The processes of sampling for retrospective laboratory analysis also is included in this standard.
