This VDE application guide specifies requirements and tests for charging cables for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles between the electricity supply point or the charging station and the vehicle. The charging cables are suitable for charging modes 1 to 4 of EN 61851-1. The charging cables for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles are used for the transmission of energy and communication to the vehicle at rated voltages of 300/500 (550) V, 450/750 (825) V or 0,6/1 (1,2) kV, even when exposed to mechanical stresses. The requirements and test procedures were elaborated in order to meet market requirements for the description of a suitable cable for charging electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
