This VDE application guide contains requirements for cables on the direct current side of photovoltaic systems (PV systems) with maximum voltages of up to DC 1,8 kV (conductor/conductor, non-earthed system).
The requirements apply for single-conductor cables which are permitted to be connected to multiple assemblies.
High demands are placed on cables in PV systems, because they are subject to most different environmental conditions.
The cables are exposed to heat arising from operation at ambient temperatures of up to 90 °C.
Such cables for PV systems are suitable for use with class II equipment.
The requirements have been elaborated as a response to the market demand for the description of a suitable cable to be used on the direct current side of PV generators.
