The expenditure for building penetrations and their sealing makes up a small share of the costs in relation to the total cost of a building. The high utility value of professionally and properly executed sealings becomes evident in the case of defective sealings and the possibly resulting damage (e.g. by penetration of water). The cost of determining the cause of damage and of renovation can significantly exceed the original manufacturing cost of the sealings. This VDE application guide compiles acknowledged rules of technology with respect to the requirements for building penetrations taking into account the requirements for cables and pipes.
