This VDE application guide applies for the planning, erection, operation and modification of generators connected to the low-voltage distribution network of a network operator and operated in parallel with the network (network connection point in the low-voltage distribution network). Here, particular attention must be paid to modifications to generators which may have a significant impact on their behaviour at the network connection point.
The VDE application guide summarizes the main aspects to be taken into account for the connection of generators to the low-voltage distribution network of a network operator. It serves as an aid to planning and decision-making for both the network operator and the installer. In addition, the network operator receives important information on the operation of such installations.
The VDE application guide replaces the fourth edition of the VDEW guideline "Autonomous generators connected to the low-voltage distribution network" (Eigenerzeugungsanlagen am Niederspannungsnetz). It was completely revised and more clearly arranged with respect to the logical structure.
Generators feeding into low-voltage distribution networks will have to participate in static voltage maintenance as is the case with higher voltage levels. During normal network operation they will therefore have to make their contribution to voltage stability in the low-voltage distribution network. This has an immediate effect on the generator design. The VDE application guide summarizes the main aspects to be taken into account for the connection of generators to the low-voltage distribution network in order that the safety and reliability of network operation be maintained in accordance with the requirements of the German Energy Industry Act even with a growing proportion of local generators and that the voltage limits laid down in DIN EN 50160 be complied with.
Additional information is given on individual points to explain certain requirements specified in the VDE application guide. Such information is summarized clause by clause in Annex A to confine the text of the VDE application guide to the essential points.
The calculations given as examples in Annex E make it possible to check the legitimacy of a generator's connection to the low-voltage distribution network on the basis of given data. Where it becomes apparent that a connection to the low-voltage distribution network is not possible the generator can normally be connected to the higher voltage level, i.e. the medium-voltage distribution network. The evaluation of the connection which is required for this purpose is made in accordance with the BDEW guideline "Generators connected to the medium-voltage distribution network" (Erzeugungsanlagen am Mittelspannungsnetz).
The Annex contains blank forms for the compilation of required data of a generator from the design of the connection to the commissioning of the generator.
This VDE application guide is part of the VDN guideline "Technical connecting conditions for the connection to the low-voltage distribution network" (Technische Anschlussbedingungen für den Anschluss an das Niederspannungsnetz (TAB 2007)).
