Abstract:
In molecular biology and genomics research, understanding genetic differences between species is extremely important. Comparing mitochondrial DNA sequence similarities can provide valuable information about the evolutionary relationships between species. This article uses Needleman-Wunsch algorithm, BLAST algorithm and Jaro-Winkler algorithm to compare the mitochondrial DNA of mammals. We hypothesize that applying algorithms with different emphases to analyze the similarity of identical pairs of genomic sequences will yield significantly different results. One of the objectives of this article is to introduce our proposed numerical approach to address this issue. We plan to provide these answers using correlation, which will be discussed in the sections 3. The results of this article indicate the need for continued detailed studies of DNA sequences, particularly in analyzing their similarities. Therefore, these tasks will remain highly relevant for a long time to come.
