Highly-Integrated, Flexible Power Solution for Aerospace 5kVA – 20 kVA Motor Drive Applications

Abstract:
As aerospace actuation systems become more electric, there is an increased demand for high-reliability, low-weight, cost-effective power electronic solutions to drive the electrical motors and reduce carbon emissions. This paper presents a highly integrated power solution (IPS) containing a power module and companion driver PCBA, which has been designed and manufactured in AS9100-approved facilities and qualified based on DO-160 specifications. The solution is extremely flexible with a variety of different product configurations and functionality options available. This paper presents technical information on all the functional elements and includes measurement, performance and trade-off details on silicon IGBT and mSiC(TM) silicon-carbide MOSFET solutions.
