Abstract:
In this paper two multi-functional Grid Managers are presented. They are capable of controlling the output voltage, or bidirectional power flow. The grid manager replaces the traditional fuse-box in an AC grid, but includes much more functionality. This includes voltage regulation and power flow control, utilizing droop control. Next to droop control, there is also the requirement to disconnect active producers, such as solar panels and batteries, in case of a grid fault. The Grid Manager includes short-circuit and earth-leakage protection. Pre-charging and inrush current limitation are implemented on the outputs of the Grid Manager. The functionality of the Grid Manager is demonstrated experimentally in a Tiny-House, where an islanding low voltage DC grid is implemented.
