Development of an Educational Li-ion Battery Test Bench for Engineering Students

Abstract:
This paper presents the development of a didactic setup where practical testing on different battery packs can be performed. The number of applications using Li-ion batteries is increasing exponentially. Vehicles are becoming electrified, appliances are becoming more portable, and buildings need to be increasingly self-sufficient using batteries. Many of these current implementations are elaborated with Li-ion batteries. This technology can create unsafe situations when used incorrectly. Therefore, it is im-portant to provide engineering students with knowledge about possible hazards, good design methods and important safety aspects.
