Abstract:
In this paper, finite element method (FEM) Multiphysics simulation models for arbitrary inductive components are presented. Therefore, methods to quantitatively describe the losses in the winding and the core of such components are investigated first followed by simulation models to predict their thermal behavior. These models are further exploited to perform a design study for a 22 kW dual active bridge (DAB) transformer with integrated leakage inductance. Finally, the impact of mechanical stress on the performance of the components will be discussed paving the way towards Multiphysics inductor and transformer models. These models can significantly shorten the development cycles of such components in the fast-growing field of charging and automotive applications.
