Abstract:
This paper compares the performance of two transformers with different primary turn configurations. The results showed that adding an extra primary turn improves transformer performance by reducing parasitic circuit parameters such as leakage inductance and intrawinding capacitance. This is verified through the construction of two foil-wound transformers and the comparison of their parasitic circuit parameters with calculated values. The transformer with an extra primary turn achieved a reduction in intrawinding capacitance by a factor of 1.35 and a reduction of leakage inductance by a factor of 1.80. The AC resistance is reduced by a factor of 1.23 at an excitation frequency of 5.07 MHz.
