Abstract:
Mother tongue transfer is one of the most important topics in second language acquisition. Both linguistic and cognitive theories involve markedness theory into the study of mother tongue transfer. Linguistic theories compare the markedness differences between mother tongue and the target language and study the possibilities of mother tongue transfer. Cognitive theories are based on the typical categories of mother tongue characteristics and analyse the selections of native language transfer by language learners. It is quite common that language learners are inclined to make negative transfer in the process of communication in the target language. Therefore, the proposition of markedness theory has profound and lasting implications for language teaching and learning. Based on big data, this paper focusing on the markedness theory aims to target both the positive and negative transfer to help enhance students’ understanding and mastery of the target language.
