Abstract:
common-mode chokes (CMCs) are commonly used in power converters to filter out noise components from polluting the environment, either on DC or AC side. Having an accurate way to describe them inside circuital model enables the evaluation of complex systems and to early estimate filter effectiveness. This paper describes a simple way to model CMCs in SPICE simulators able to produce accurate simulations without slowing down simulation as other solutions do. This methodology has been used to model commercial CMCs and compare with their datasheets, showing good adherence with simulation and real measurements.
