Abstract:
In order to meet particular process requirement, rework stations are delimited in workshops. However, diversity and volatility of rework production can lead to a huge amount of rework transportation cost which needs to be optimized. An optimization model of workshop layouts based on rework rate was proposed in this paper. Firstly, an objective function of the minimum total cost of logistics was established, which was composed of production transportation cost and rework transportation cost. After comprehensive analysis, the relations of transportation flows between each procedure and rework areas were quantified. Then various constraints were established according to actual conditions in workshops. In addition, with a randomly generated initial population, a genetic algorithm was applied to search for the optimal workshop layout. Finally, a case study was demonstrated to show how the proposed model worked. Compared with the huge amount of rework logistics cost in traditional workshop layouts, this new model solved the problem effectively. This model turned out to be valuable for production lines with high rework rate or multiple rework procedures.
