Abstract:
The centrifugal casting method was introduced to successfully fabricate the SiCp/Al composite electronic packaging box components. Three zones involving the SiC particle segregation zone, matrix alloy region and inclusion collecting zone were observed on the longitudinal section of the casting. The influences of various processing parameters on the macro-morphologies, microstructures and particle volume fractions of the castings were investigated. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and thermal conductivity (TC) of the box were measured. The results show that the casting had the most remarkable segregation of SiC particles when the pouring temperature was the highest of 850deg C and SiC particles had a coordinated combination of larger diameters of 25, 79 and 120micrometer. The components obtained from the particle segregation zone had a dense structure. The volume fractions of SiC particles at different locations in the particle segregation zone were different, and reached the largest value of 61.67% at the left-side area of the box. The largest value of volume fraction of SiC corresponded to CTE of 7.44×10-6K-1 and TC of 180.54W/ (m·K).
