Abstract:
The isolated transformer is one of the key components in a high density USB PD power adapter. There are typical standard ferrite cores used in the transformers. In this paper, the advantage by using a ferrite core, which was designed exactly for this specific application, a flyback transformer for an 65W adapter, will be shown. With this new core geometry, it is possible to reduce the power losses significantly, and improving the EMC behaviour too, without increasing the space consumption on the circuit board.
