Abstract:
In this paper, techniques to determine and minimize losses of high-frequency power transformers are presented. This is done in the framework of the development of an air-cooled 11 kW / 800 V off-board charger with a target power density of 2.2 kW / litre (36 W/in3). Therefore, a soft-switched silicon-carbide (SiC)-based power electronic is utilized operating at a high switching frequency of 0.5 MHz. Thus, the volume of the required transformer for galvanic isolation is considerably reduced. For further significant size-reduction of the power transformer the advantages of DC-biased magnetic materials are investigated.
