Abstract:
Current Source Rectifiers require an LC input filter, which is intrinsically exposed to resonance and may experience severe overvoltage. Input filter protection is therefore key to the converter reliability. This paper dwells into the protection of the input filter both in terms of overvoltage protection and resonance damping. Particularly, it uncovers switching transients as the most severe event, and critically evaluates alternatives for the protection of the input filter. The analysis is validated through combined simulation, experiments and field data from CSR used as front-end rectifier of a double-conversion UPS.
