Abstract:
Seat movements and vibrations are becoming increasingly important. Various seat concepts are currently available on the market, including passive, adaptive and even active systems. An investigation was started to target an active solution that offers a broad range of functionalities while maintaining the potential for widespread implementation in higher volumes. In this article, the fundamentals of passive, adaptive and active seat principles will be presented. However, the key to achieving a robust and marketable solution seems to lie within the actuator and its control. Therefore actuator requirements are derived and an actuator type is chosen, dimensioned and implemented in the seating system. Finally, test rig and road test results as well as control targets are discussed.
