Abstract:
Comparable to AC systems, complex HVDC structures are likely to require more than one circuit breaker installation at particularly relevant nodes. A possible solution for bus bar applications at reduced expenses is presented here. Following the proposed principle by adding two diodes and one auxiliary switch per line, an unlimited number of connections can be protected with a single unipolar DC Circuit Breaker (CB) comparable to the plug-and-play principle. Thereby, a solution for cost-optimized protection without choice restrictions for HVDC CBs is made. The outlined benefits will be verified by simulations in MATLAB Simulink.
