Abstract:
A field-programmable-gate-array-based (FPGA-based) real-time model of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) is investigated. The hardware programmability of FPGAs lets the digital system be dedicated to specific computation tasks, thereby obtaining high performance. This makes FPGAs suitable for the real-time implementation of complex models. This paper proposes a function approximation strategy and discusses issues related to its practical implementation on an FPGA platform. The SRM model’s high sampling frequency allows precise simulation of the motor behavior in combination with a power electronic converter.
