Abstract:
One of the main paths of improved inverter system performance is the use of fast-switching devices. General considerations are presented in order to implement and operate fastswitching devices in power modules. Detailed analyses on low-inductive and symmetric power-module designs, specific device characteristics, and snubber capacitors are presented, and arising consequences are emphasized. For future power modules and systems, the potential of fast-switching devices based on the 650-V TRENCHSTOP(exp TM) 5 technology is discussed, the interaction with passives is evaluated, and a concluding summary and a guideline for future developments are given.
