Abstract:
Leveraging advanced processor functionality to facilitate ease of design has been discussed throughout recent decades. Nowadays even greater design flexibility allows engineers to use standard MATLAB functionality to optimize motor control systems design and performance, and to minimize overall design time. It also enables design engineers to reuse simulation models to ensure the correct functionality and desired performance of a system in its end market application. This paper outlines the process of Model Based Design (MBD), and provides an example of its implantation in a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) closed loop control application in a high performance variable speed drive based on the ADI mixed-signal control processor ADSP-CM408. Experimental results highlight the value, benefits and flexibility of the MBD methodology, and how it can be implemented in high performance embedded motor control without compromising performance or code efficiency.
