Abstract:
Only the power factor of LED lamps greater than 25 Watt is regulated. The total RMS grid current of billions of LED lamps (e.g. 6 Watt) is too high. By using a simple nonlinear passive topology for Power Factor Correction in combination with a flyback converter this RMS value can be significantly reduced nearly by factor two. By this, the power factor of λ = 0.45 is increased to λ = 0.90. Concerning the big changing of the DC voltage can be neglected because the control of the flyback converter generates a constant LED-current. The presented measurement results verify this theory.
