Abstract:
To date, a centralized power generation based on fossil fuels is common. To meet the greenhouse gas emissions and targets a transition to low carbon power generation is required. This could be established by the penetration of renewable energy into the supply mix, such as wind and solar power. As a result a change to decentralized power generation will take place. The objective of this paper is to describe the development of a hybrid system which consists of a combined heat and power plant and a photovoltaic array including a lithium-ion battery for electric energy storage. It is shown that the proposed design enables a nearly independent and climate-friendly power supply of a residential neighborhood.
