Abstract:
In this paper, a hybrid linear equalizer/ interference canceller receiver for the FDD mode of the High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) standard is proposed. The receiver operation needs three steps, namely, linear equalization, interference regeneration and interference cancellation. The linear equalization step provides a good initial estimate of the transmitted symbols. These estimated symbols are then used for interference regeneration, and finally interference cancellation is applied to refine the estimation and provide new symbol estimates. The linear equalization step uses a MMSE chip-level channel equalizer, whereas the interference cancellation step is performed according to the MultiPath Interference Canceller (MPIC) principle. Simulation results show that better performance is obtained by using the proposed receiver than theMMSE chip-level channel equalizer and theMPIC receiver when used separately; this enables drastic computational savings.
