Abstract:
The paper presents the results of the comparative analysis of images obtained by two-frequency (X, L bands) airborne SAR, developed in SRIPI (Russia). The presented system has the opportunity for both channels to work through the plane’s illuminator (2 illuminators are used) that provides the possibility of the installation of that system on board of various types of planes and helicopters. An additional antenna system, located in an external gondola, has been created. It can be mounted on board of AN-24 or AN-12 airplane with minimum modifications. A series of SAR observations has been carried out using the given system. X and L band SAR images, obtained while working in different modes (using the external antenna, or working through the plane’s illuminator), are demonstrated. Backscattering coefficients, measured for different surface types in X and L band, and for VV and HH polarizations in L band, are compared. The results of the processing of several images using change detection technology show the possibility to detect targets with relatively low false alarm ratio.
