Abstract:
This paper examines the performance of Aperture Switching modes for the TerraSAR-X satellite. Such modes create a virtual multi-channel system by switching between spatially diverse antennas from pulse to pulse. We explain the operation and implementation of the suggested modes, which are compared to the Dual Receive Antenna mode, the real two-channel experimental mode of TerraSAR-X in terms of SAR performance. Two possible applications for these modes, ocean current measurement and traffic monitoring, are discussed.
