Abstract:
Vehicular ad-hoc networks are expected to enable delivery of large amount of data to vehicles at short ranges using inter-vehicle wireless links. A new approach to model the inter-vehicle transmission channel is presented in this paper. The approach consists of tree major parts: the modelling of the road traffic, the modelling of the environment adjacent to the road lane and the actual modelling of the wave propagation between the vehicles. For the latter a ray-optical approach is used, which allows for wide-band as well as narrow-band analyses of the channel. Characteristic time series of impulse responses of the inter-vehicle communications (IVC) channel can therefore be calculated, which can be directly used for link level system simulations. Simulation results are compared to wideband measurements at 5.2GHz of the IVC channel yielding a good agreement.
