Abstract:
1-D and 2-D Rake receivers have been traditionally employed in DS-CDMA systems in order to provide high quality of service in wireless mobile environments. In addition, transmit diversity has recently been proposed for the downlink of DS-CDMA systems for the same purpose. In this paper we consider the bit error rate performance of a coherent binary phase shift keying (BPSK) 2-D Rake receiver with open loop transmit diversity, operating in a Nakagami-m fading multipath channel. Assuming identical amount of fading along spatially separated Rake fingers, we provide a new closed form expression for the average bit error rate that considers arbitrary fading correlation among antenna array elements and nonidentical average powers and amount of fading in the Rake fingers of each element. This expression is easily evaluated numerically and enables the link designer to quantify the effect of various system parameters on the system performance.
