Few-mode Multi-core Fibre for Random Coupling with All Propagation Modes

Abstract:
Simultaneous intra- and inter-mode group coupling is experimentally demonstrated for the first time. Random coupling between 21 spatial modes in a hexagonal 3-mode 7-core fibre is successfully observed by considering mode coupling between non-adjacent cores via an intermediate core and its bending radius dependence.
