A Combined Electrical and Mechanical Test Procedure for Use in LPS Blade Components for Lifetime Verification

Abstract:
For modern blades including carbon beams, LPS components comprising metallic and carbon fiber elements are inte-grated in composite matrix and submitted to static and fatigue mechanical loads. Lightning events also occur during the whole blade lifetime, and when blade LPS components are submitted to a given mechanical load. This paper presents a combined electrical and mechanical test procedure to verify the blade LPS components integrated in blade composite matrix to guarantee the performance during the whole lifetime and under maximum mechanical loads.
