Abstract:
Modern wind turbine blades are equipped with carbon spar caps. The length of these components may exceed 100 meters in length, so it is not feasible to perform a full LPL I high current test to the real-scale carbon cap. The paper focuses on describing a method to build a carbon cap golden reference (CapGR) by down-sizing the real carbon cap but keeping the interfaces at real-scale, so that this CapGR keeping the important features to be validated can be tested at laboratories to validate component against LPL I requirements.
