Abstract:
The lightning channel imager (LCI) data was used to statistically analyze the lightning characteristics in Sanya, China and evaluate the performance of Hainan Island lightning location system (HILLS). Results indicate that the LCI can effectively detect lightning within the field of view. Lightning in Sanya occurs from May to October, with the most frequent occurrence at 4 and 5 am. The HILLS has a lightning detection efficiency of 93.2%, stroke detection efficiency of 75.3% and has an average location accuracy of 1.9 km using locations of four strokes hit the tall-structure.
