Abstract:
Wireless sensors do not need a wired connection for energy supply and data transmission and therefore enable new sensing applications in various industrial fields, which cannot be solved efficiently using classic wired sensors. For the design of a wireless sensor network modelling and optimization of energy consumption is crucial to maximize battery lifetime. In this work, we have built an ultra-low-power wireless sensor network using vibration measurement for condition monitoring. The energy consumption for the wireless transmission and data processing has been determined separately to find an optimal data processing approach for the trade-off between battery life time and amount of data provided to the user.
