Abstract:
According to the world health organization at least 2.2 billion people have a near or distance vision impairment globally and thus need technical aids like active braille displays. In this paper we report about the development of a finger position sensing approach which can be integrated in the curved surfaces of braille displays and simplifies the use of active braille displays for visually impaired people. The capacitive self-sensing output is simulated by Finite Element Analysis and compared to experimental results. It is proved that self-sensing provides sufficient sensitivity for typical reading speed and suitable horizontal and vertical sensitivity in respect to according to finger positions on the braille display.
