Current and future activities in energy-efficient industrial drives

Abstract:
Industrial drives are currently facing new challenges that have the potential to significantly influence design and usage. In this paper, a short assessment of new semiconductors is given, before focus is given to different energy efficiency aspects. First, loss determination methods are presented, as well as the status of legislative requirements and corresponding standards are discussed in more detail. Current EMC normative activities are also highlighted especially in the low frequency band. Finally, the possibilities and requirements for condition monitoring are supplemented with an example showing concrete benefits of combining digitization with power electronics.
