Abstract:
Increasing the integration of renewable energies such as wind turbines or photovoltaic plants is of great importance to be independent from abroad energy imports in the future. This has a significant impact on future planning and operation of distribution grids, as consequently, power flows can reverse and temporary limit violations can occur. Increasing observability in distribution grids can support planning and operation processes considering terms and conditions of future power supply. The R&D project i-Autonomous funded by the Ministry of the Federal Government of Germany was initiated for a uniform, standardized and hardware-independent integration of distribution grid automation systems. For this purpose, novel edge-computing and virtualization solutions are used for the integration and operation of future automation systems in distribution grids.
