Abstract:
For an exoskeleton-application a torque-sensing unit was integrated in a new high performance planetary gearbox. The starting point was a predevelopment concept showing the general feasibility. As the requirements strongly increased especially in regard to space restriction of 42 mm diameter and applied torque of more than 30 Nm, the layout was fully redesigned. The paper intents to give an overview of the main characteristics of the used integrated torque-sensing technology and the achieved properties of functional units. Major aspect is the accuracy of the sensing unit regarding the range of loads. Installation conditions have also a significant effect on the achieved results, especially the mechanical connection. The long-term behaviour was also analysed. For performing the functional tests special testbenches had to be built up in interaction with data acquisition, data processing and interpretation.
